Photochemical Reaction of 2-Aryl-1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-ones

The photochemical reaction of 2-aryl-1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-ones (1) in benzene was found to give dibenzo<1,4>selenazepin-11(10H)-ones (2).On the other hand, the photochemical reaction of 1 in t-butyl alcohol afforded 2-(2-hydroxy-2-methylpropylseleno)benzanilide, 2-(methylseleno)benzanilide, and 2-aryl-1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one 1-oxides together with the photoisomer 2.Mechanisms for these reactions are proposed.
