A facile synthesis of trans-3,4-dihydroxy-anti-1,2-epoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-7,12- dimethylbenz(a)anthracene 1; a highly carcinogenic metabolite of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) have been described.
