The complexes C5H5Rh(C2R2)PPrⁱ3 (III, IV) are prepared from trans-RhCl(C2R2)(PPrⁱ3)2 (I, II) and NaC5H5.Protonation of III (R = Me) gives salts of the cation i3>⁺ which contains the allylic ligand in the anti-configuration.At room temperature, a rearrangement to the syn-isomer occurs.The reaction of IV (R = Ph) with CF3CO2H yields the vinyl complex C5H5Rh(CPh=CHPh)(O2CCF3)PPrⁱ3 (VII) which reacts with NH4PF6 or CF3CO2H in methanol to form the metallaindene derivative VIII.The X-ray structure of VIII has been determined.
