The cycloaddition of a 3-siloxy-1,3-pentadiene and the 4-acetoxyazetidinone 3 followed by ring contraction and phosphorylation leads to the key precursor of 1β-methylcarbapenems (11) in a five-step process in 27percent overall yield.
