The total synthesis of three 7,8-secoberbines: (+/-)-corydalisol (1), (+/-)-aobamine (2) and (+/-)-hypecorinine (3) was carried out using hydrastinine chloride (4) and propylenedithioacetal of methoxycarbonylpiperonal (5) as the main building blocks.Compound 6, condensation product, was the key intermediate in the synthesis and was transformed either into corydalisol (1) and aobamine (2) (Scheme 1) or into hypecorinine (3) (Scheme 2).
