Beginning with (S)-phenyl lactic acid ((S)-5) the compounds (2S, 7aS)-1, (2S, 7aR)-1, (2S, 2'S)-3, (2S, 2'R)-3, and (S)-4 are prepared. (2S, 7aS)-1 and (2S, 7aR)-1 are obtained by cyclocondensation of (S)-8 and (2S, 2'S)-3 and (2S, 2'R)-3 from (2S, 2'S)-12 by anodic, oxidative decarboxylation. (S)-4 is derived from (S)-15 by Pd/C-catalysed isomerisation.
