Reaction of 9-diazo-4-azafluorene with phenylacetylene gives spiro<4-azafluorene-9,3'-pyrazolenines>, isomeric according to the position of the substituent in the pyrazolenine ring.Their thermal rearrangement to pyrazolo-4-azaphenathrenes that are isomeric according to ring linkage and position of the substituent in the pyrazole ring has been studied.
