It was found that the bis(N-R,4-decyloxybenzoyloxysalicylaldiminato) nickel(II) or copper(II) complexes (where R=n-CnH2n+1, n=1-10) (series I and II respectively) formed enantiotropic nematic mesophases over a broad temperature range, with low melting points; e.s.r. and X-ray studies showed that these series exhibit different magnatic behaviour.
