Quantitative expressions that govern sequential kinetic resolutions have been developed for calculation of the relative kinetic constants to allow optimization of chemical and optical yields. Enantiomerically pure (2R,4R)-and (2S,4S)-2,4-pentanediols have been prepared by biocatalyzed sequential enantioselective esterification in anhydrous isooctane.
