Photooxygenation of 2-methyl-3-silyloxybenzofurans 1 afforded isolable dioxetranes 2, the latter rearranged via α-silylperoxy ketones 3 to cleavage products 4; 2-silyloxy-3-methylbenzofuran 6 with ¹O₂ gave the more stable dioxetane 7.
