Reaction of PbCl2 with 2,4,6-(CF3)3C6H2Li results in the formation of the first stable diaryllead(II) compound, [2,4,6-(CF3)3C6H2]2Pb (4). X-ray structural analysis shows that in the solid state 4 is a bent monomer. 4 reacts with 2,4,6-(CF3)3C6H2SH (5) in hydrocarbon solutions to produce the solvent-free thiolate [2,4,6-(C-F3)3C6H2S]2Pb (6).
