The complete vibrational spectra of dimethyl oxaloacetate and dimethyl oxaloacetate-d2 have been recorded and analyzed.The i.r. spectra were recorded at liquid N2 as well as ambient temperature.Tentative vibrational assignments are proposed based on an enol structure in the crystalline phase.In solution, dimethyl oxaloacetate exists as a tautomeric mixture of keto and enol forms.Evidence for the existence of different enol conformers in CCl4 and CS2 solutions is also presented.
