In the title complexes Os^II and Os^III display strong preferences for cis- and trans-S4P2 geometries respectively; structural parameters of the cis-Os^II, trans-Os^II and trans-Os^III isomers have revealed that back-bonding and steric crowding within the Os(PPh3)2 fragment are the primary controlling factors.
