A 9,9'-spirobifluorene, functionalized in the 2,2'-positions with two 6-methyl-2-pyridinyl-aminocarbonyl residues, provides a cleft binding site for the selective 1:1 complexation of glutaric and pimelic acid in chloroform solution.Chiral recognition occurs in the complexes of the chiral cleft with N-Cbz-L-glutamic acid.
