However, additional bioassays will be needed to better under-
stand the biological significance of the newly identified iridoid
lactones. As our way from limonene to iridoids provides rela-
tively easy access to a large variety of iridoid lactones and
monocyclic iridoids, behavior experiments using synthetic com-
pounds may shed some more light on the complex relationships
between host aphids, primary parasitoids such as Aphidius spp.,
and aphid hyperparasitoids such as Alloxysta spp. [56].
