The base labile N-2-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)ethyloxycarbonyl (Dnpeoc) group has been developed for the protection of the α-amino group of amino acids. Preparation of Dnpeoc-amino acids and their application to solid-phase peptide synthesis are described.
