The experimental determination of ionization and appearance energies is discussed, together with the calculation of heats of formation of ions.Results are presented for the ions nH_{2n+1^{>⁺, n}}H2n+2^{N>⁺ and nH}2n+1O>⁺.The low temperature (ca. 350 K), low energy (12.1 eV) mass spectra of some alkanes, amines and alcohols are presented and discussed.
