Ion Enthalpies and Their Application in Mass Spectrometry

The experimental determination of ionization and appearance energies is discussed, together with the calculation of heats of formation of ions.Results are presented for the ions nH_{2n+1^{>+, n}}H2n+2^{N>+ and nH}2n+1O>⁺.The low temperature (ca. 350 K), low energy (12.1 eV) mass spectra of some alkanes, amines and alcohols are presented and discussed.
