Hexamethoxyphenylethylbenzenes synthesized by hexaalkoxybenzylation of C6Me6 via their complexation to the Fe(C5H5)⁺ electron-withdrawing group are readily cleaved by BBr3 to yield hexaphenols, leading to hexa- and hepta-iron sandwich complexes
