1-(2-Substituted 1-propenyl)-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzenes are cyclized to 3-substituted I-(4-methylpiperazino)naphthalenes in a lithium 4- methylpiperazide-mediated reaction that involves the trifluoromethyl group.
