The reactions of 5-arylthianthrenium perchlorates with sodium hydrosulfide hydrate (NaSH*xH2O) in aqueous THF at reflux afforded polyarylthioethers having five sulfur atoms bonded to only ortho positions of each aryl group in good to excellent yields.
