2,3-Dicyano-1,4-diethoxycarbonylcyclopentadienide anion (3) is N-functionalized by nitration, nitrosation, azo coupling or diazo-group transfer.Phenylbromonium- and phenylchloronium-cyclopentadienes 14 and 15 are synthesized by photolysis of the diazo compound 13 in the appropriate halobenzene.
