2-Acetonylpyrimidines readily undergo the Hantzsch-Biginelli cyclocondensation.This method was used to obtain derivatives of 1,4-dihydropyridine and 1,4-di- and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidines, containing the pyrimidine fragment in the 5-position of the heterocycle.
