The benzyl ester echinocarpic acid ( 1',4'-dihydroxy-6'-methoxy-3'-oxo-1',3'-dihydroisobenzofuran-5'-ylmethyl 2,4-dihydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoate) (7) has been isolated from the lichen Parmelia norcrambidiocarpa together with atranorin and chloroatranorin.The structure of the compound (7) followed from a combination of spectroscopic and chemical data.
