Synthesis & characterization of C2-symmetric biphenyls as novel dopants for induced ferroelectric liquid crystal phases

We report the synthesis of novel rod-like chiral dopants bearing a C₂-symmetric biphenyl core with a large transverse dipole moment, and the induction of a FLC phase upon doping of such compounds into a S_C host.
