The pentafluorophenyl ester of a C-glucopyranosidyl-linked olefin has proved to be an efficient chiral dienophile for asymmetric Diels-Alder reactions with E-1-acetoxy-1,3-butadiene to give C-α-glucosyl-cyclitol derivatives with excellent regioselectivity but fair diastereoselectivity.
