Palladium catalysts are found to selectively hydrogenate fluoroolefins without hydrogenolytic cleavage of the carbon-fluorine bond. Since a large number of methods are available for the preparation of unsaturated organofluoro compounds this constitutes a general synthetic route to sp³-fluorinated molecules.
