Two new unsymmetrical disiloxanes, 1-silyldisiloxane, SiH3SiH2OSiH3, and 1,1,1-trimethyldisiloxane, (CH3)3SiOSiH3, have been synthesized and characterized. 1,2-Disilyldisiloxane, (SiH3SiH2)2O, underwent reaction with BCl3 to yield SiH3SiH2Cl. Preferential cleavage of certain silicon-oxygen bonds was observed when (CH3)3SiOSiH3, SiH3SiH2OSiH3, and also a mixture of (SiH3SiH2)2O and (SiH2)2O were treated with BCl3. The results are discussed.
