A recently developed cyclopentenone annelation sequence involving propargylation of ketone derivatives by (RC<*>CCR₂)Co₂(CO)₆⁺ complexes (1) followed by regiospecific hydration and cyclization has been employed in an efficient stereoselective synthesis of the guiane sesquiterpene cyclocolorenone (2).
