A new, practical synthesis of highly substituted phosphonates utilizing 1-, 2- and 3-phosphonyl substituted radicals derived from iodoalkylphosphonates and a catalytic or stoichiometric amounts of the n-Bu₃SnH/Et₃B/O₂ reagent is described.
