Perchloric acid in acetic acid reacts with phenylacetylene to yield acetophenone α-chloroacetophenone, αα'-dichloroacetophenone, α-acetoxy-α'-chloroacetophenone, dichloroαβstyrene and β-chlorophenylacetylene. The disappearance rate of phenylacetylene is proportional to the concentrations of phenylacetylene and perchloric acid; that of perchloric acid varies in proportion to the amount of phenylacetylene and perchloric acid. Rate constants are in a ratio 2.5:1. The various chlorinated products arise from acetyl perchlorate.
