Octafluoronaphthalene radical cations generated by oxidation of octafluoronaphthalene by SbF5 or by electrochemical oxidation react with fluoride and chloride anions giving perfluoro-1,4-dihydronaphthalene and 1,4-dichlorooctafluoro-1,4-dihydronaphthalene, respectively.
