Supramolecular self-assembly of Ph2Tl(S2COME) based on a rare coordination mode of the xanthate ligand and thallium?π -phenyl interactions

Diphenylthallium(III) xanthates, Ph₂Tl(S₂COR), R = Me, Et, iso-Pr, Bz, have been prepared from Ph₂TlBr and KS ₂COR, and the crystal structure of Ph₂Tl(S ₂COMe) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound displays a supramolecular structure consisting of Ph ₂Tl(S₂COMe) tectons, self-assembled through intermolecular Tl?S and Tl?O secondary bonds and Tl?π-phenyl interactions.
