Microwave-mediated derivatization of poly(styrene-co-allyl alcohol), a key step for the soluble polymer-assisted synthesis of heterocycles

Poly(styrene-co-allyl alcohol) can be readily esterified under classical conditions or under microwave irradiation. Some of the so-obtained polymers are effective precursors for the preparation of various nitrogen and oxygen heterocycles. The recycling of the polymeric auxiliary and its use in combinatorial chemistry are discussed.
