The oxidative addition of α,α'-dichloro-p-xylene to (Ph3P)2Ni(C2H4) affords the blue violet binuclear nickel(II) complex (Ph3P)2ClNiCH2C6H4CH2NiCl(PPh3)2.On the other hand no organonickel compound, but (Ph3P)2NiBr2 and 1,2,5,6-dibenzocyclooctadiene are obtained by the reaction of α,α'-dibromo-o-xylene with (Ph3P)2Ni(C2H4).In ether oxidative addition of 1,2-dibromoethane is not observed.
