A new binuclear copper(II) complex with 1,4-bisbenzene was prepared and characterized.This complex showed catalytic activity for the oxidation of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,4-diaminobenzene by dioxygen in contrast to the inertness of the component mononuclear complex.
