Transition metal substituted ketenes react with water, methanol or dimethylamine to form acetic acids, methylacetate and dimethylacetamide with the metal in the α-position.This reaction proves to be of special importance for trapping thermolabile η1-ketene complexes, shown by means of a trifluorphosphane substituted representative.
