Acyclic polyethers (containing a ferrocene nucleus in both terminal sites) were syntehesized by a one-pot reaction of 1,1 prime -diacetoxyferrocene with halide. Also, ferrocene derivatives having polyethylene glycols were synthesized by the reaction of potassium salt of hydroxyferrocene with dihalide in DMF. On the addition of alkali metal thiocyanate in methanol, a hyposchromic shift and an increasing intensity of the absorption band at 438 nm were observed in ferrocene-containing polyethers, suggesting the complexing of these polyethers with cations. However, a similar spectral charge could not be observed in ferrocene derivatives.
