Structural analyses on 2 (1a) and 2 (1b) have demonstrated that the bite angle of the phosphine ligands exerts a profound influence on the cluster geometry, since (1a) has a rhomboid of gold atoms with μ₂-Fe(CO)4 moieties, and (1b) has well separated Au2Fe triangles.
