The free radicals ^.CH2CH2OH and ^.CH(CH3)CH2OH react with iron(II)protoporphyrin, Fe^IIPP, to form the transient complexes (PP)Fe^II-CHRCH2OH> The spectra of these complexes are reported.The transient complexes decompose in a first-order process via the reaction (PP)Fe^II-CHRCH2OH -> Fe^IIIPP + OH(1-) + CH2=CHR.The specific rates of the latter reactions are 80 and 40 s^-1 for the two systems, respectively.The results are compared with those for analogous process.
