Reaction of α,α-dimethylphenethyl hydroperoxide with iron(III) tetramesitylporphyrin in protic solvent gives alkoxy- radical products and little epoxide. Such observations are usually interpreted as evidence for homolysis of the O-O bond in the catalytic
