The product channels of the N2(A3Σu+, ν=0-2) + O2 interaction have been examined by using a discharge-flow apparatus.N2(A) was generated by energy transfer from Ar metastables and directly determined from Vegard-Kaplan emission. The branching ratios for N2O and O2(B3Σu-) formation have been determined to be <0.2percent and <15percent, respectively. These results for O(3P) production exceed the maximum possible branching ratio (two O atoms per N2(A)) by a factor of 3.These results indicate that the Ar* + N2 interaction produces N2 metastable states, in addition to N2(A), capable of dissociating O2.
