Kinetic hydrogen isotope effects on the decomposition of nitramide catalysed by a series of phosphonate anions and the 2,4,6-trichlorophenoxide ion were found to be small (kH/kD ca. 2 - 3) with no sign of a maximum value of pKa (catalyst conjugate acid) ca. 6, in disagreement with a previously reported claim but consistent with the expected pKa of the reactive form of the substrate.
