The reaction Cl + HBr --> HCl + Br was studied by a competitive method using the reaction Cl + C2H6 --> HCl + C2H5 as a reference reaction.Experiments to determine ratios of rate constants kCl+HBr/kCl+C2H6 in the temperature range 222-504 K were carried out in a fast flow system with mass spectrometric analysis of the reaction mixture.The results fit the Arrhenius expression: kCl+HBr/kCl+C2H6 = (0.53+/-0.03)exp<-(321+/-16)/T>.A comparison is made with values calculated from reported results for the individual rate constants kCl+HBr and kCl+C2H6.
