A method has been developed for the identification of the compositions of all the insoluble compounds which are formed in the reaction of an insoluble substance (A) with a soluble one (B).It consists of allowing a fixed amount of A to react with various amounts of B in a fixed volume of a solution, determining the concentration of B(=) remaining unreacted after the equilibrium is reached, and then finding the number of the formed compounds and their composition from the variations in on the basis of the phase rule.This method was applied to the reactions of PbI2 with diethylenetriamine (dien) and with 1,3-propanediamine (pren); the presence of the following addition compounds was found: PbI2*Y(dien) (Y=1/2 and 1) and PbI2*Y(pren) (Y=4/5, 1 and 2).
