copper(I) with a substantial increase in fluorescence intensity.
Thus the complexes can act as a fluorescence-based nitric oxide
sensor in methanol. In aqueous solutions (buffered at pH ∼ 7.2)
of complexes 1 and 2, the quenched fluorescence intensity was
observed to be restored upon addition of nitric oxide. The
reappearance of the fluorescence intensity in both the cases was
attributed to the reduction of Cu(II) to diamagnetic Cu(I).
