Reduction of Fe(CO)5 and RX (RX = EtI ; PhCH2Br) by controlled potential electrolysis leads to the production of Fe(CO)5^-. and R^. radicals which, in CO, undergo stoechiometric carbonylation of the organic halide into aldehyde, after hydrolysis.
