The crystal structure of >*1.5H2O 1 is reported: with NaIO4 or NBuⁿ4IO4 as cooxidant it is an efficient catalyst for alkene epoxidations under mild conditions; it also oxidises primary alcohols to aldehydes and secondary alcohols to ketones.
