The mercury- and cadmium-photosensitized reactions of γ-butyrolactone have been studied.The gaseous products obtained in the mercury-photosensitized reaction were carbon dioxide, cyclopropane, and propylene.On the other hand, the products obtained in the cadmium-photosensitized reaction were carbon monoxide and ethylene.
