The oxygen analogues of sulfchlorin-A and-C were synthesized from protoporphyrin-IX dimethyl ester. The developed methodology employs a modified Mitsunobu reaction and produces the first porphyrin epoxides and porphyrinones derived from protoporphyrin-IX.
