Four chain-like coordination polymers [Zn(NIPH)(py)3]n (1), [Mn(NIPH)(py)3]n (2), {[Co(NIPH)(py)3]·(H2O)}n (3), and {[Cd(NIPH)(im)2(H2O)]·(H2O)}n (4), (where NIPH = 5-nitroisophthalate, py = pyridine, and im = imidazole) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and TGA analysis. Crystal data for 1: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 20.044(4) A?, b = 16.182(3) A?, c = 14.539(3) A?, β = 111.96(3)°, Z = 8. Crystal data for 2: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 19.3590(13) A?, b = 16.5100(9) A?, c = 14.6392(7) A?, β = 111.844(3)°, Z = 8. Crystal data for 3: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 19.797(4) A?, b = 16.256(3) A?, c = 14.619(3) A?, β = 111.82(3)°, Z = 8. Crystal data for 4: monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a = 7.6882(15) A?, b = 17.861(4) A?, c = 13.219(3) A?, β = 92.53(3)°, Z = 4. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1, 2, 3, and 4 have 1D zig-zag chain structures constructed from μ2-bridge NIPH ligands and metal atoms. All of these four chain-like structures are finally packed into three-dimensional supramolecular networks through hydrogen bonds and π?π stacking interactions. The thermal properties of these complexes have been measured.
